The Relationship between Decorin and VEGF in Endometriosis
This study found that endometriosis patients showed lower decorin and higher VEGF staining in endometrial and ovarian tissues compared to controls, indicating a negative correlation between the two factors.

This retrospective single-center descriptive study compared immunohistochemical staining of decorin and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) in archived ovarian and endometrial tissues from 20 patients with an endometrioma and 10 controls undergoing hysterectomy/oophorectomy for benign gynecologic pathologies, with samples collected in the proliferative menstrual phase. The study found lower decorin staining intensity and higher VEGF staining intensity in both endometrial and ovarian tissues in the endometriosis group versus controls, along with a significant negative correlation between VEGF and decorin staining in endometrium and ovary. Limitations include the small sample size and reliance on semi-quantitative IHC scoring by a single experienced pathologist. This paper is centrally about endometriosis — it examines the relationship between decorin and VEGF expression in endometrial and ovarian tissues from patients with endometrioma versus controls.
