Abstract
This project will investigate if people recently diagnosed with endometriosis feel conflicted when making decisions about treating their symptoms. Feeling conflicted about important health decisions is associated with delays in decision-making, feeling regret about choices made, and with symptoms of depression, anxiety and stress. 200 adult participants who live in Australia who have been diagnosed with endometriosis by a medical professional during the past 3 months will be recruited via Facebook and from specialist clinics. They will fill out an online survey which will include questions about decisional conflict; psychological distress; how confident they are in taking control of their healthcare decisions; and cost of treatment burden. Participants will also be asked to rate their endometriosis symptom severity and duration, and provide demographic information. It is expected that participants will record high levels of decisional conflict, and that this will be associated with high levels of psychological distress. We also predict confidence in their ability to take control of their healthcare and treatment cost burden will moderate that relationship. The results will be used to help inform the development of an online decision support tool.
