Impact of LNG-IUS on serum CA125,hemoglobin and dysmenorrhea of adenomyosis

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system(LNG-IUS) in treating adenomyosis.Methods A total of 110 patients with adenomyosis were followed up in 1,3,6,12 months after placing LNG-IUS,Serum CA125,hemoglobin(Hb),follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH),luteinizing hormone(LH),estradiol(E2),dysmenorrhea,menstrual blood volume and menstrual period were compared.Results The level of Hb after placing LNG-IUS in one year was higher than that before placing LNG-IUS;the level of serum CA125 after placing LNG-IUS in three months was lower than that before placing LNG-IUS;there were no significant change in FSH,LH,E2 between before and after placing LNG-IUS.105 patients had alleviated dysmenorrhea obviously after placing LNG-IUS in three months with significantly less scores(0.72±0.05)] by dysmenorrhea grading than befor(2.15±0.12)(P 0.05);Andmenstrual blood volume of the patients after placing LNG-IUS in one month decreased remarkably(P 0.05);The uterine volume decreased(P 0.05).The endometrial thicknesses of the patients at three months after the placing were significantly thinner than those before the placing and there were significant differences(P 0.05).Conclusion LNG-IUS placed in uterus is a safe,effective and micro-invasive therapy for adenomyosis,which can effectively relieve dysmenorrhea as well as uterine preservation,cut down menstrual blood volume and shorten menstrual period.
