The cause of intrauterine death in vasa previa is not always bleeding: a case report

Antepartum and intra-partum hemorrhage from vasa previa is an important cause of intrauterine fetal demise ( IUFD). Here, we present two cases with type I vasa previa in which unprotected vessels apparently were compressed by the engaged fetal head, resulting in fetal hemodynamic collapse. Thus we suggest that vasa previa with a velamentous cord insertion should be considered for earlier termination of the pregnancy to avoid the risk of non-hemorrhagic adverse fetal outcomes.
