Ecological Worldview in Folklores and Folk Tales Leads to Environmental Conservation

In the 21st century, with the advancements of science & technology, every nation is in the race of being more developed. In the name of progress, environment has been degraded and we have faced numerous disasters like earthquakes, desertification, water scarcity Tsunami, Covid-19 etc. within the last two decades. In the Indian society, the westernised idea of development is one of the grave reasons causing all this and the only viable solution lies in tracing the ancient wisdom and attuning our lifestyle with the Ecological worldview that our Folklores and Folk Tales offer. Folklores promote indigenous practices and pave a life of harmony with nature. Similarly, folk tales have such elements which instil traditional knowledge among generations. The ecological values and ideas of sustainability that the rich cultural practices of folklores and environmental ethics that the folk tales propagate lead to environmental conservation. This paper aims to highlight the significant role of folklore and folk tales in the conservation of nature by explicating on the interrelationship between Man, Nature and God through ecological worldview. This can be achieved by further exploring the ecological worldview through ecocritical viewpoint.
