Expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 in human endometriosis

Objective To evaluate the effect of matrix metalloproteinase 2 and 9(MMP-2 and MMP-9) in the pathogenesis of endometriosis. Methods The expression of MMP-2 and MMP-9 protein in 25 specimens of en-dometriosis and 22 specimens of controls(normal endometrium) were studied by immunohistochemistry. Results The expression levels of MMP-2 and MMP-9 protein in endometriosis were significantly higher than those in controls(the value of P was less than 0.01 and 0.05, respectively) . Conclusion MMP-2 and MMP-9 play an important role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.
