The expression and significance of epithelial neutrophil ENA-78、IL-8 in endometriosis

Objective:To investigate the role of epithelial neutrophil—activating peptide-78(ENA-78) and interleukin-8 (IL-8) in the pathogenesis of endometriosis.Methods:peritoneal fluid concentrations of ENA-78 and IL-8 were measured by means of enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA)in 50 patients with endometriosis and 20 women without endometriosis (control group).Results:peritoneal fluid concentrations of ENA-78 and IL-8 were significantly higher in endometriosis group than in the control group(326.25±231.35pg/ml、3.58±1.98 ng/ml;123.85±61.42pg/ml、1.25±0.78ng/ml, P0.05),and ENA-78 and IL-8 levels in stages Ⅲ and IV were significantly higher than those in stages Ⅰ and Ⅱ(504.65±256.14pg/ml、4.87±1.59ng/ml;210.12±102.23pg/ml、2.06±1.55 ng/ml,P0.05).Significant diference in ENA-78 and IL-8 levels between proliferative phase and secretory phase was found in neither of the groups.There is no significant correlation between ENA-78 and IL-8 levels(r= 0.0873,P0.05).Conclusion:Patients with endometriosis have elevated peritoneal fluid ENA-78 and IL-8 levels, which have correlated with the stage. They might be pathogenic factors of endometriosis.
