A Case of Endometriosis of the Rectum.

The incidence of rectal endometriosis is relatively rare. We have experienced one case of rectal endometriosis. Endometriosis is defined as abnormal growth of endometrial tissue outside the uterus and it occurs in approximately 5 to 15% of women. Endometriosis may involve the rectal wall and protrude into its lumen, thus making diagnosis difficult. Largely because of diagnostic uncertainty, patients with severe intestinal involvement usually require surgical resection. We experienced a 47-year-old female patient who has cyclically appearing abdominal pain with rectal mass. We suspected rectal carcinoma but this mass was proved rectal endometriosis pathologically. So we present the case with a brief review of literature.
