Effect of ultrasound-guided serratus anterior plane block on the pain, inflammation and oxidation after radical mastectomy

Abstract

Objective: To study the effect of ultrasound-guided serratus anterior plane block on the pain, \ninflammation and oxidation after radical mastectomy. Methods: Patients who underwent \nradical mastectomy in Qinghai Provincial People’s Hospital between March 2015 and \nDecember 2017 were selected as the research subjects and randomly divided into the \nexperimental group who accepted ultrasound-guided serratus anterior plane block combined \nwith general anesthesia and the control group who accepted general anesthesia. The pain \nmediators, inflammatory molecules and oxidative stress molecules were measured before \nsurgery and 3 d after surgery. Results: Compared with those of same group before surgery, \nserum NPY, SP, PGE2, CGRP, IL-1β, IL-18, TNF-α, MDA and 8-iso-PGF2α levels as well \nas peripheral blood NF-κB, NLRP3, NOX4 and MPO expression intensity of both groups \nof patients were increasing whereas serum SOD levels were decreasing after surgery, and \nserum NPY, SP, PGE2, CGRP, IL-1β, IL-18, TNF-α, MDA and 8-iso-PGF2α levels as well \nas peripheral blood NF-κB, NLRP3, NOX4 and MPO expression intensity of experimental \ngroup after surgery were lower than those of control group whereas serum SOD level was \nhigher than that of control group. Conclusion: Ultrasound-guided serratus anterior plane block \nhas significant inhibitory effect on the pain, inflammation and oxidation degree after radical \nmastectomy.
