Cultural Influences on Child Development in Ethiopia: Perspectives from Cultural Professionals

The purpose of this qualitative study is to explore cultural beliefs and practices that influence child development in Ethiopia. The study is based on individual interviews with twelve cultural professionals working in two key federal public institutions for the past 8-23 years. While all participants were Ethiopian nationals, their ages ranged from 30 to 46 (with the average age being 37.5). Of the 12 participants, 4 (33.3%) were female and 8 (66.7%) were male. The study identifies different socio-cultural beliefs and practices that may significantly shape the overall development of children in Ethiopia.
