Psychometric Validation of the Beyond Myself Scale - 8 (BMS-8): A Pilot Study on Core Social Competencies
preprint
OA: closed
Abstract
In modern society, non-cognitive abilities and social competencies have become essential for individual adaptability and growth. This study defines "Beyond Myself 8 (BM8)" as a multifaceted concept comprising eight core social skills and develops the "Beyond Myself Scale-8 (BMS-8)" as its measurement instrument. Data from 89 female university students were analyzed to examine the scale's psychometric properties. Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses supported an eight-factor structure: resilience, self-efficacy, rolefulness, empathy, tolerance, critical inquiry, experiential learning, and risk management. The model demonstrated adequate fit (CFI = .920, RMSEA = .056), indicating high structural validity. These results suggest that the BMS-8 is a reliable and valid tool for assessing the diverse competencies required in educational and corporate settings.
