Glucagon Like Peptide-1 Receptor Agonists and Diabetic Kidney Disease: From Bench to Bed-Side

Abstract
Glucagon like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists are currently available for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. They have been shown to help with diabetic kidney diseases through multiple mechanisms. In this review, we will shed light on the different mechanisms of actions through which GLP-1 receptor agonists may achieve their roles in renal protection in diabetics; both in animal and human studies as well as review their safety profile in diabetic patients.
