Study of microstructure and mechanical behaviour of Ti2AlC reinforced hypereutectic Al-16Si matrix composites fabricated by induction melting

Abstract
Abstract The newly developed ternary-layered compound Ti2AlC reinforced Al-Si hyper-eutectic matrix composites successfully fabricated through a rapid heating rate of induction technique. The microstructure and, tensile performance, Micro Vickers hardness were systematically investigated. The Al-Ti2AlC system composites with varying Ti2AlC weight percentages undergone to investigate microstructure and mechanical strength. According to SEM data, the presence of the in-situ TiAl3 phase can significantly impact the interface bonding condition. After reinforcement with MAX phase particles, the ductility of the Al-Si hyper-eutectic alloy was increased by roughly 33%. According to morphological evaluation, casted samples exhibited intermetallic compounds, interfaces, and microcracks.
