Barrier-Repair Cream as an Adjuvant to Oral Isotretinoin Therapy Improves Skin Hydration, Acne Lesions and Patient Satisfaction: A Prospective Pilot Controlled Study

(1)Background: This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of a specific moisturizer (Biretix Isorepair®)—formulated with ceramides, hyaluronic acid, vitamin E, and SCA® Growth Factor technology—in patients with mild to moderate acne vulgaris undergoing oral isotretinoin treatment. (2) Methods: A 12-week prospective, open-label clinical study was conducted in 20 patients , comparing the effects of the study moisturizer with those of a standard moisturizer for acne-prone skin.(3) Results: Both groups showed improvements in acne severity, as assessed by the Patient's Global Assessment (PGA) and Investigator's Global Assessment (IGA), however, the group treated with the study moisturizer demonstrated a significantly greater reduction in non-inflammatory lesions, higher levels of skin hydration (instrumentally measured), and a lower incidence of cutaneous adverse effects -including xerosis, erythema, desquamation and pruritus, as well as improved mucosal tolerance. Additionally, patients using the study product reported greater overall satisfaction, enhanced comfort, and better adherence to treatment. (4) Conclusions: These results suggest that the use of barrier-repairing moisturizers as adjuvants during oral isotretinoin therapy can not only improve skin hydration and reduce adverse effects but also enhance therapeutic adherence and patient satisfaction.
