The contractile wave starts at the cervix (a), passes to the middle third (b) and reaches the upper third (c) of the uterine cavity. The antegrade direction of the contraction is typical of the follicular phase of the menstrual cycle. The deformation does not affect the total thickness of the myometrial wall.
