Developmental Opportunities in Adolescence
preprint
OA: closed
Abstract
A time of rapid growth and ecological change, adolescence provides a prime window for biological and social opportunities for well-being. Historically, adolescence has been branded as a period of turmoil and rash behaviors, but recently, scientists have begun to consider the ways in which adolescent development enhances individual and societal well-being. Enabled by biological changes, cognitive development, and shifting environmental orientation, this period of life provides a myriad of opportunities for healthy development. While other modules highlight the increased risks and vulnerabilities in adolescence, such as psychological distress and health-risk behaviors, this module will cover positive aspects of adolescent development.
