FIELD: organic chemistry, medicine. ^ SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a new crystalline form of 6-hydroxy-2-{4-[2-(piperidin-1-yl)ethoxy]phenoxy}-2-(4-methoxyphenyl)benz[b]thiophene hydrochloride. The compound can be used in inhibition of diseases associated with insufficiency of estrogen including cardiovascular disease, hyperlipidemia and osteoporosis and in inhibition of pathological states, such as endometriosis, uterine fibrosis, estrogen-dependent cancer (including breast and uterine cancer), prostate cancer, endometrium benign hyperplasia, central nervous system disorders including Alzheimer's disease. The compound is prepared by recrystallization of arzoxyphene from tetrahydrofuran.
