Efficacy analaysis of sodium alginate(KMG) in the treatment of adenomyosis

Abstract

Objective To study the efficacy and side effects of sodium alginate(KMG),a new embolis mic agent used in uterine artery embolism(UAE) for treating adenomyosis.Methods UAE was performed in 40 patients with adenomyosis.4F Cobra catheter was inserted into uterine arteries.KMG with a diameter of 500~700μm was used to embolize the arteries.Results The complete emission of dysmenorrhea was found in 35 patients using KMG,after 1~3 months partial remission in 5 cases;The menstrual volume was reduced 56.2% after 1~3 months in 38 cases in average,2 cases returned to normal after 3 months of therapy.In 32 patients with anemia,Hb was returned to normal volue after 3~6 months,after UAE using KMG,the bodies of uterus and the lesions were reduced about 47.3%~61.4% in 6 months.No serious complications occurred in all patients.Conclusion Embolis mic agent KMG used in UAE for adenomyosis is safe and effective,but further observation is needed to determine its long-term effectiveness.
