Abstract
Objective: To observe the effect of atorvastatin on endometriosis patients and its influence on matrix metalloproteinase-9(MMP-9) expression in blood. Methods:A total of 78 endometriosis cases were randomly divided into two groups by half.Patients in treatment group were treated with atorvastatin, and patients in control group were treated with mifepristone both for 8 consecutive weeks.E2,MMP-9 levels were determined and compared before and after treatment and also compared between groups. Results: After treatment, score of dysmenorrhea scale was significantly lower in observation group(P0.01),but no significant difference between two groups was observed after treatment(P0.05);there was significant difference in amenorrhea incidence 4 and 8 weeks after treatment(P0.01);E2 and MMP-9 levels were significantly lower after treatment(P0.01)showing significant difference between two groups(P0.01).Conclusions:Atorvastatin can inhibit MMP-9 expression with little side effects, thus it can be used for endometriosis.
