The etiopathogenesis that fully explains its appearance in different anatomical locations has not yet been documented. Thus, there is a wide spectrum of presentations, including superficial peritoneal endometriosis, ovarian endometriomas, and deep infiltrative endometriosis.Women suffering from this condition describe a wide variety of symptoms, which can range from asymptomatic to significantly affecting their quality of life. Symptoms include intense dysmenorrhea, deep dyspareunia, and infertility.Regarding therapeutic strategies, the focus is primarily on relieving the symptoms of endometriosis, and include hormonal therapy, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and surgical treatment. However, the effectiveness of these treatments is limited, not only due to the associated side effects but also because of the high rate of symptom recurrence after surgery.Therefore, to better support these women, the role of pharmaceutical intervention in improving their quality of life is highlighted. Pharmacists have the skills to advise and support women with endometriosis, both pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically.Keywords: Endometriosis, superficial peritoneal endometriosis, ovarian endometriomas, deep infiltrative endometriosis, hormonal therapy, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, surgical treatment, pharmaceutical intervention A endometriose é uma doença crónica, que afeta 10-15% das mulheres em idade reprodutiva e caracteriza-se pela presença de glândulas e de estroma endometriais funcionais fora da cavidade uterina. Ainda não está documentada a etiopatogenia que explique por completo o seu aparecimento nas diferentes localizações anatómicas. Desta forma, existe um largo espetro de apresentações, salientando-se a endometriose peritoneal superficial, os endometriomas ováricos e endometriose profunda infiltrativa.As mulheres que sofrem desta patologia descrevem uma grande variedade de sintomas, podendo ter uma evolução assintomática ou afetar a qualidade de vida das mesmas. Dos sintomas destacam-se a intensa dismenorreia, dispareunia profunda e a infertilidade. No que diz respeito a estratégias terapêuticas, focam-se essencialmente no alívio dos sintomas da endometriose, destacando-se a terapia hormonal, anti-inflamatórios não esteroides e tratamento cirúrgico. Porém, a eficácia destes tratamentos é limitada, não só devido aos efeitos colaterais a elas associados bem como à elevada taxa de reincidência dos sintomas após cirurgia.Desta forma, para um melhor acompanhamento destas mulheres destaca-se o papel que a intervenção farmacêutica pode ter na qualidade de vida das mesmas. O farmacêutico é um profissional dotado de competências que lhe permitem, quer a nível farmacológico quer a nível não farmacológico, aconselhar e acompanhar mulheres com endometriose.
