Abstract
Adolescence intensifies parental demands, confronting them with novel challenges that require adjustment in their parenting practices. In this context, parental self-efficacy constitutes a central determinant of successful parental adaptation. Until now, no validated French-language instrument assesses parental self-efficacy during adolescence. This study validated the Self-Efficacy for Parenting Adolescents (SEPA) Scale in a French-speaking sample of parents of adolescents aged 12–18 (N = 657). Exploratory and confirmatory factor analyses supported a four-factor structure consistent with the original scale, resulting in a refined 22-item model. Convergent, discriminant, and concurrent validity were confirmed using relevant measures of parental self-efficacy, parental satisfaction, parental stress, and adolescent functioning. The French SEPA is a reliable tool to assess parental self-efficacy during adolescence, with clear implications for research and clinical practice.
