Solanine poisoning in an elderly man with dementia:a case report with clinical findings

Abstract

Background: In this case report,we presented a rare case of an elderly man with dementia who was diagnosed of solanine poisoning with significant abdominal distension. Case presentation: The case was a 74-year-old man who was referred to with fever and abdominal distension. The adbominal computed tomography showed significant intestinal dilatation. After anticholine hydrochloride injection, his abdominal distension dramatically diminished. Conclusion: It is important to be aware of abdominal distension is a clinical manifestation of solanine poisoning, especially elderly people with dementia. It can be helpful for the diagnosis of solanine poisoning in the future.
