Modelling Marital Dynamics in India: A Quantitative Perspective on Sustainability

Abstract

Abstract Background In traditional Indian society, marriage holds significant religious, cultural, and familial value. Marital dynamics in India are evolving from traditional customs to contemporary practices, shifting from arranged marriages to more love-oriented partnerships, increased female empowerment through education and careers, delayed marriages, and a growing inclination towards nuclear families over joint families. Methods The constraints of the mathematical model include married people (Md), broken/separation people (Bn), divorced (Dv), and widowed (Wd), all within a constant human population size (N). This work examines the trends and factors influencing marital stability within the Indian context. This mathematical model indicates the current situation, although certain essential measures are needed in this regard. Results: Through graphical representation, the parameters are crucial to the system and explore the methods and strategies that are advantageous to the society. A sustainability objective for marriages in India might emphasize enduring harmony, equality, and social welfare while reconciling cultural traditions with contemporary values. Conclusions: Mathematical models, while basic, provide a crucial understanding of the changing dynamics of marital relationships in India and can assist policymakers in anticipating social shifts, evaluating threats to social unity, and sustainable family support initiatives.
