Abstract

Abstract Purpose: This paper focuses on the contribution of community participation in development projects on poverty reduction in Ethiopia. Design/methodology/approach: A descriptive design was followed and a sample of 204 household heads identified using multistage sampling for primary data. Collected data was analyzed using chi-square test and ordered logistic regression model. Findings: The results show that respondents participanted in the development projects during the implementation stage but some of them not participated due to low income, lack of awerness, not satisfied with the projects etc. The projects contributed to poverty reduction, decline food shortage, increase income, increase food and non food expenses, increase health and schooling expenses etc. Further, men mostly participated in sustainable land management and getting more benefits by using conservation stragegies. The logit model results revealed that Age , Social activities, Access to social net-work, Access to information, Positive attitude, Training, Awareness, Local government support, Occupation, Income level, Contact with extension agents were the determinants of community participaton in the development projects. Practical Implications: The findings highlight the need for targeted interventions like encouragement of participatory approach and inclusion of economically and socially disadvantage sections. Originality: The contribution of community participation in development projects on poverty reduction has scarcely been addressed in academic research in the study area. Although qualitative approaches provide insightful analyses of the real-world experiences, there is a conspicuous lack of comprehensive quantitative study in the literature. One noticeable gap is the absence of statistically meaningful evidence on the role of community participation in Development Projects in Poverty Reducation in Ethiopia.
