Investigating the histological findings of persistent fifth aortic arch with interrupted aortic arch, right aortic arch and aberrant left subclavian artery: a case report

The persistent fifth aortic arch (PFAA) is a rare disease caused by developmental anomalies associated with aortic coaction (CoA) and an interrupted aortic arch (IAA). It has been reported that the histological findings of the fifth aortic arch differ from those of normal aortic structures. Therefore, histological findings are important in deciding whether PFAA should be resected or used during aortic arch reconstruction. In the present case, the PFAA was resected during aortic arch reconstruction. The treatment strategy for PFAA is discussed based on histological findings.
