The paper measured cytosolic estrogen and progesterone receptor levels in genital external endometriosis tissue from 375 patients over a 3-year period, with receptor biochemistry performed after the DCC method on tissue obtained during pelvicoscopic exploration. Of those, 153 patients had sufficient tissue for quantitative receptor assays, and among the evaluable endometriosis lesions 59% showed both estrogen and progesterone receptors positive using specified fmol/mg Cytosol protein thresholds, while 12% had low receptor content (below 3 or 6 fmol/mg, respectively), and additional patterns included estrogen-positive/progesterone-negative and estrogen-negative/progesterone-positive cases. A major limitation was substantial missingness due to insufficient tissue for steroid receptor determination in over 200 patients, and in 40 patients receptors could be detected qualitatively but not quantified.
