Documenting Parents’ Intervention Choices for their Autistic Children in Ireland

Abstract Documenting parents’ decision-making regarding intervention for their autistic children and the factors that influence their choices is important. Understanding which interventions are most commonly selected, factors that influence these choices, and reasons for discontinuing or not selecting an intervention are vital to enable professionals to provide support for parents making these decisions. Using an online survey, Irish parents (n = 124) of autistic children reported the interventions they had chosen or had not chosen to engage in with their children, as well as factors that influenced their selection. Results indicated that parents in Ireland engage in a variety of interventions with their autistic children to support development across domains. Analysis of results indicated factors influencing decision making and engagement.
