Nutritional assessment and correction in endometriosis.

Abstract

The Mediterranean diet, which is rich in vegetables, fruits, berries, whole grains, fish and olive oil, is currently considered one of the most effective dietary patterns that can help reduce oxidative stress, inflammation and the associated risk and pain of endometriosis. The diet is considered a long-term strategy for managing endometriosis. When assessing the eating habits of women with endometriosis, it was found that there was a frequent deficit in calories, protein and other important nutrients, and the balanced plate principle was often not followed, i.e. the diet lacked carbohydrates, protein and healthy fats, which could have led to late hunger and increased cravings for unhealthy snacks. Lack of fiber, Omega 3 fatty acids, antioxidants in the diet, insufficient amount of water consumed influences the dominance of excess estrogen in the body, imbalance of intestinal microbiota and inflammatory processes. A customized 7-day menu has been created, based on the principles of the Mediterranean diet, in order to maintain hormonal balance, reduce excess estrogen, increase the diversity of intestinal microbiota, reduce inflammatory processes and pain associated with endometriosis. The diet includes a lot of vegetables, fruits, berries, whole grain products, fish, olive oil, fermented products. It also includes as many products as possible containing antioxidants and polyphenols, vitamins C, E, magnesium, Omega 3 fatty acids.
