Abstract

A New Mouse Model of EndometriosisEndometriosis represents a huge socioeconomic burden, but development of nonsurgical treatment has been hampered by the lack of appropriate animal models.Greaves et al (Am J Pathol 2014, 184:1930e1939) developed and validated a mouse model of endometriosis using syngeneic menstrual endometrial tissue introduced into the peritoneum of immunnocompetent mice. The model closely mirrored the human condition as an estrogen-dependent inflammatory disorder and revealed that the immune complement of the menstrual endometrium contributes to the pathology of peritoneal lesions. This model offers the opportunity to explore fully the pathobiology of this complex disorder and the development of new therapeutic approaches.
