Abstract
Objective To study the role of aromatase cytochrom P450 in the pathogenesis of endometriosis and the practicability of it serving as a diagnostic marker for endometriosis. Methods The expression of aromatase cytochrom P450 in normal, eutopic and ectopic endometrium of endometriosis was determined by immunohistochemical assay. Results Aromatase cytochrome P450 was negative or weakly expressed in normal endometrium, but in both eutopic and ectopic endometrium of endometriosis it was highly expressed, with 92% sensitivity and 95 5% specificity. The expression of aromatase cytochrome P450 was higher in proliferative phase than in secretory phase. Conclusions The increased expression of aromatase cytochrom P450 in endometrium may play an important role in pathogenesis of endometriosis and can be used as a marker for diagnosis.
