Relationship between Myofibroblast and Pelvic Endometriosis

Objective To observe the expression of myofibroblast in ectopic endometrium in the pelvis.(Methods) The expression of α-smooth muscle actin(α-SMA) α-SMA by immunohistochemistry was detected in 44 cases of pelvic endometriosis.Four cases of ectopic endometrium and two cases of eutopic endometrium were examined by transmission electron microscope.Results The positive expression of α-SMA in ectopic endometrium was 86.4%(38/44) and 18.2%(8/44) in eutopic endometrium.Conclusion Myofibroblast existed in ectopic and eutopic endometrium was identified with transmission electron microscope. Myofibroblast plays a certain role in the pathogenesis of pelvic endometriosis
