Abstract

Objective: To investigate the value of color doppler ultrasound in diagnosing adenomyosis and adenomyoma. Methods: Diagnosis was performed by using Simens Acuson Sequoia 512 and ATL Apogea 800 color doppler flow imaging ( CDFI ) ultrasonography with the probe's frequency of 2.0~4.0 MHz and 2.0~5.0 MHz. From June, 2001 to December, 2003, 98 cases of patients with symptoms, for instance, dysmenorrheal and patients with uterine myomata were spot-checked. The clinical symptoms include dysmenorrhea, excessive menstruation, delayed menstruation, menses disturbance, primary of secondary sterility, etc. Results: 81 cases of patients with adenomyosis or adenomyoma were diagnosed by color doppler ultrasound. 18 cases were complicated with pelvic ectopic endometrium. 55 cases of patients accepted operation. 45 cases of patients were proved by pathology after therapy, and the misdiagnosis rate accounts for 18.2%. 26 patients chose conservative treatment, among whom 18 patients' symptoms palliated, alleviated or pelvic lump shrank after medical treatment. The effective rate accounts for 69%. Conclusion: Ultrasound imaging is at present one of the main means for the diagnosis of adenomyosis and adenomyoma. Owing to its non-trauma and repeatability, color doppler ultrasound should be used for routine detection program of suspicious of adenomyosis and adenomyoma.
