Effect of Benson Relaxation Technique on Pain Intensity and Quality of Life among Women with Endometriosis

Abstract
Background: Endometriosis is a painful, chronic, and inflammatory disease that is characterized by the growth of endometrial-like tissue outside uterus that affects women’s quality of life. Aim: To evaluate the effect of Benson relaxation technique on pain intensity and quality of life among women with endometriosis. Design: Quasi- experimental (control and study) research was utilized. Setting: study was conducted at outpatient gynecological clinic, Minia University Hospital for Obstetrics and Pediatrics (MUHOP), Egypt. Sample: purposive sample formed of 60 women that divided into study and control group. Tools: three tools were used to collect data: A structured interviewing questionnaire, pain assessment, and endometriosis Health Profile. Results: in study group, there was highly statistical significant difference between before and after intervention regarding level of pain and impact of endometriosis on the quality of life at p-value 0.05. Conclusion: A significant improvement occurred in the studied women level of pain and quality of life after application Benson relaxation technique in the study group. Recommendations: Increasing the availability of Benson relaxation technique for women who have endometriosis in order to improve their overall quality of life.
