Abstract
Endometriosis,a disease in which endometrial tissue grows outside of the uterus usually within the pelvic cavity,is one of the most persistent and enigmatic disorders affecting reproductive health.Recent studies suggest that the altered expression of MMP and TIMP may play an important role in pathogenesis of endometriosis. This summary will present general knowledge of the MMP system relative to the pathophysiology of the endometriosis as well as address its potential value to the treatment of the disease.
