Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the effect of high intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) on hysteromyoma and endometrioma. Methods:Fifteen patients with hysteromyoma or endometrioma. underwent HIFU using the BY-01 system. Patients were followed up at 1 month, 3months and 6 months respectively. Clinical symptom, the size of hysteromyoma or endometrioma, image of ultrasound and intensity of blood flow were recorded. Results:The clinical symptom were significantly improved at month 3.The size of hysteromyoma or endometrioma began to decrease at month 6 by 1cm to 1.5cm at mean level and 3cm at month 12 respectively. The change of image of ultrasound and intensity of blood flow were characterized by enhancing resonance on ultrasound slightly, disappearance of blood flow , no change of mass body at month 1 and enhancing of resonance on ultrasound, disappearance of blood flow and decreasing of mass body by 1 to 2 cm from month 3 to month 6.Conclusion:HIFU is a safe and effective method for the treatment of hysteromyoma and endometrioma with little side effects and incision.
