Abstract

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the female pelvis is an established tool for assessing benign and malignant disease together with ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), and isotope/positron emission tomography (PET) scanning. It is used for the diagnosis, assessment of the extent of disease, and for the follow-up and monitoring of disease response to therapy. The MRI appearances of a wide spectrum of pelvic diseases are described and illustrated. The evolution of the technique and the potential applications of physiological MR techniques to this field of imaging are reviewed.
