Abstract

Introduction: Pinch-off syndrome (POS) can lead to intravascular embolization so it is very important to predict POS in advance. POS is easily misdiagnosed as catheter catheter obstruction, most of the cases are diagnosed by radiologists or clinicians observe whether the catheter is narrowed or broken on chest radiographs, but fewer cases are reported in which catheter stenosis is identified on chest radiographs by nurse specialist alone. Methods: We discuss the case which thetotally implantable venous access devices (TIVADs) was dysfunctional but it was not being addressed correctly in many medical Settings until the patient came to our hospital. Results: The nurse specialist in the vascular access nursing clinic discovered POS and helped the patient manage it timely. The TIVADs were removed safely under digital subtraction angiography (DSA). Conclusions: It is necessary for medical staff to increase their awareness of catheter pinch-off syndrome and to prevent and treat TIVAD, thus avoiding serious complications.
