The Broad Ligament Maneuver may improve fertility by increasing endometrial receptivity and reduce endometriosis pain by addressing contractures, warranting further clinical studies.

Abstract

Background: The Broad Ligament Maneuver (BLM) was described for the treatment of deep pelvic pain, but it has evolved over time, appearing to be useful in other specific fields. Aims: To describe the clinical advances in the use of BLM, particularly regarding infertility and endometriosis. Method: Communication of advances from discussions of clinical cases of a focus group of pelvic physiotherapists to create hypotheses for future studies. Results: BLM seems to increase menstrual flow, related to endometrial growth and, therefore, correction of infertility due to low endometrial receptivity. Endometriosis pain may be related to muscle and/or connective contractures, as the BLM seems to reduce these pains both in the acute and chronic phases. Conclusion: It is possible that BLM increases the chances of implantation and consequently fertility, as well as serving as a tool for the treatment of pain due to endometriosis, but clinical studies for this purpose are urgently needed.
