Effect of Shaofu Zhuyu Pill on expression of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 mRNA in endometriosis rats

AIM To study the effect of Shaofu Zhuyu Pill(Angelicae sinensis Radix,Paeoniae Radix rubra,Chuanxiong Rhizoma,etc.)(SZP) on the expression level of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 mRNA in endometriosis(EMS) rats.METHODS The model of EMS rats was made by implanted tunica intima method.Then forty rats were randomly divided into five groups,sham operation group,EMS model group,gestrinone group,high dose SZP group and low dose SZP group.After consecutive intragastric administration for 30 days,the expression levels of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 mRNA were detected by RT-PCR.RESULTS SZP could significantly down-regulate the expression level of MMP-9 mRNA in EMS rats(P0.01),and significantly up-regulate the expression level of TIMP-1 mRNA(P0.01).CONCLUSION SZP could treat EMS through adjusting the balance of MMP-9 and TIMP-1.
