Laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS) for large benign adnexal tumors: one surgeon's experience over one-year period.
This study evaluated the feasibility of laparoendoscopic single-site surgery (LESS) for removing large benign adnexal tumors by comparing operative efficiency against conventional laparoscopy. Ten patients underwent LESS procedures using a modified open Hasson technique and a single-port device inserted trans-umbilically, with specimens suctioned and removed via LapBag. The results indicated that specimen removal time was significantly shorter in the LESS group, averaging three to ten minutes compared to ten to seventeen minutes for conventional methods. This paper is centrally about benign adnexal tumor management; it does not explicitly discuss endometriosis or adenomyosis, but such conditions are common indications for the surgical interventions described.
