Endometriosis: A Scoping Review of Recent Advances in Pathogenesis and Treatment (2021-2026)

There is constant ongoing research within the health sciences regarding several topics which has led to changes in the approach and reasoning of many clinicians in reference to several conditions. In the case of conditions such as endometriosis developments are often made but not as urgently implemented due to a lack of recognition of its relevance. A common condition that can be significantly painful to the point of reduced ability to function should be more recognized in order to improve dissemination of information regarding how its approached and treated in high and low resource settings. This scoping-style narrative review aims to compile recent developments in the last 5 years around the pathophysiology and treatment of endometriosis in order to shed some light on recent advances. This should allow for increased ease of access to knowledge of these changes and improved implementation of recent developments. Methods include a search using the term "Endometriosis" on PubMed, Google Scholar, Cochrane and Research gate with a specific focus on papers between January 2021 and June 2026. Boolean operators such as "AND" and "OR" will be used to narrow the search when combining with terms such as "Pathophysiology", "Treatment", "Management" and others as is required for each subtopic. Studies referring to all age groups including pre-menarchal and post-menopausal endometriosis will be included and studies referring to endometrial polyps, adenomyosis and leiomyomas will be excluded. A focus on systematic reviews will be preferred with reports and other studies being included where necessary. The studies will be screened and reviewed by a single researcher which is a limitation of this review. Expected Outcomes: Publishing the review as a pre-print with the subsequent publishing in a peer reviewed journal.
