preprint
OA: closed
Abstract
Aim: To review and synthesize qualitative studies of pregnant women’s experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic among uninfected women. Methods: Five databases were searched for qualitative studies published between January 2020 and October 2022. This study was guided by the PRISMA statement and a systematic review methodology of qualitative studies with thematic synthesis. Furthermore, this review was registered the PROSPERO. Results: Nine qualitative studies published were included in this review. The studies were conducted in eight countries and included a total of 3,709 participants. Five themes were identified: (1) disruptions of normal antenatal care services, (2) feelings of uncertainty, (3) desire for sufficient spousal supports, (4) strategies for coping, and (5) trust in healthcare providers. Discussion: The themes can be utilized in interventions for pregnant women by healthcare providers, nurse-midwife managers, and healthcare policymakers to improve current practice and future research and to prepare for future pandemics.
