CASE REPORT: Papillary cystic variant of acinic cell carcinoma in the minor salivary gland of the Right cheek

Abstract Introduction: Acinic cell carcinoma is an uncommon neoplasm, with the papillary cystic variant having a fatal outcome. Our knowledge about this variant is limited. Case Presentation: Here, we present a case report of a 59-year-old female who presented with right cheek swelling. The biopsy showed tumor cells arranged in a papillary cystic pattern and lined by a cell with an amphophilic cytoplasm and vesicular nuclei. Cells with a focal hobnail appearance were also seen. Tumour cells showed PAS-positive cytoplasmic granules and were positive for alpha-1 antitrypsin and S100. A final diagnosis of a papillarycystic variant of acinic cell carcinoma was made by correlating the morphology with special stain and immunohistochemistry. Conclusions: It is essential to recognize this rare variant of Acinic cell carcinomaand look for the factors associated with it for the better management of the patient.
