Abstract

The results of cytological examination of 586 patients with epithelial ovarian tumours /OT/ are analyzed. The information value of the cytological method in the diagnosis of OT is 80.5% and correlates with methods of getting the material, morphological character and histological structure of the tumour. In case of a positive cytological conclusion about the presence of tumour the concordance of cytological and histological diagnosis reaches 95.5% with respect of the determination of benign or malignant character of the tumour and 77.5% concerning histological structure of the tumour. Cytological differential diagnostic criteria and cytological classification of epithelial ovarian tumours are given.
