This paper examines the clinical manifestations and histologic appearance of the endometrium to address the multifactorial nature of functional uterine bleeding, which lacks a single pathologic entity or satisfactory classification.

One-sentence paraphrase of the abstract; not a substitute for reading it. No clinical advice. How this works

Abstract

IF THE TERM “functional uterine bleeding” is used to include any abnormal hemorrhage “in the absence of gross lesions,“ it is found that many different factors are involved and not merely a single clinical or pathologic entity. There is no completely satisfactory classification of the various causes, but an approach may be made by considering the clinical manifestation of the bleeding and the histologic appearance of the endometrium.
