Observation on the effect of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system in adenomyosis

Abstract

Objective To study clinical effect of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system(Mirena)in adenomyosis.Methods Forty six patients with adenomyosis from February 2008 to February 2011 in department of obstetrics and gynecology of our hospital were treated with Mirena after the menstruation from the third to fifth day,then the changes of dysmenorrhea,menstrual amount and endometrial thickness at third and sixth month after the treatment were observed.Results The degree of dysmenorrheal was(78±16),the menstrual amount was(212±53) mL and endometrial thickness was(11.1±1.8) mm before the levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system,the degree of dysmenorrheal was(28±12),the menstrual amount was(48±15) mL,endometrial thickness was(16.8±1.2) mm ather the treatment at third month,the degree of dysmenorrheal was(20±9),the menstrual amount was(31±12) mL,endometrial thickness was(14.7±1.0) mm ather the treatment at sixth month,there were significant differences between before and after treatment(P 0.05).Conclusion The effect of levonorgestrel-releasing intrauterine system in adenomyosis is obvious,and it is safe,effective,simple and the price is low,so it is suitable for primary hospital.
