Single port transumbilical laparoscopic surgery for adnexal lesions: a single center experience in Korea
This study assessed the feasibility and outcomes of single port transumbilical laparoscopic surgery for adnexal lesions in 86 Korean patients.

This single-center retrospective study evaluated the feasibility of single port transumbilical laparoscopic surgery (SPLS) for adnexal lesions using a single three-channel port system with a wound retractor and surgical glove, analyzing demographic data, operative times, blood loss, length of stay, postoperative complications, and pathology results. Between October 2008 and September 2009, 86 patients underwent SPLS, with a median operation time of 64.5 minutes, median blood loss of 10 ml, and median postoperative hospital stay of 2 days; endometriosis was the most common diagnosed etiology (34.9%). Complications occurred in 4.7% of cases, including three pelvic infections and one postoperative hemorrhage. This study’s main limitation is its single-center retrospective design based on medical record review. Relevance to endometriosis: endometriosis was the most frequently diagnosed cause of the adnexal lesions treated in this SPLS cohort, though the paper’s main focus is feasibility of the surgical approach for adnexal lesions broadly.
