Abstract
Nowadays, endometriosis affects 1 out of 10 women of childbearing age, yet it is still a little known, misdiagnosed or minimised disease. It’s obvious that endometriosis has an impact on women’s everyday life, with many consequences, such as chronic pain, anxiousness and depression, social and even professional isolation, and troubles in couple’s privacy. As a healthcare professional, the community pharmacist makes himself a key figure thanks to his flexibility, his easy access and his advisory role, both in terms of medication and in the healthcare pathway. Indeed, the pharmacist’s role is more than ever focused on supporting chronically ill patients, by implementing short assessment questionnaires on the counter, establishing Therapeutic Patient Education programs in collaboration with an university hospital, not to mention the use of non-allopathic therapeutic alternatives he has mastered. In light of the long diagnostic journey and the lack of a sustainable and fully satisfactory pharmaceutical solution, the support provided by the community pharmacist to women suffering from endometriosis turns out to be truly beneficial, further reinforcing their essential role in the multidisciplinary management of this chronic disease.
