Abstract

Resveratrol as Adjuvant Therapy for the Management of Endometriosis: Clinical Evidence DOI: https://doi.org/10.70164/jmbr.v1i3.90Keywords: Resveratrol, Endometriosis, Polyphenols, AntioxidantsAbstract Endometriosis is a gynecological and inflammatory disease characterized by the development of the endometrium and endometrial glands outside the uterine cavity. This pathology can manifest asymptomatically in some women, however, the majority present clinical symptoms of different intensities, the main ones being: dysmenorrhea, dyspareunia, lower abdominal and/or back pain, dyschezia, dysuria and altered bowel habits. Thus, endometriosis has become one of the main causes of disability and significant impairment of quality of life in adolescents and adult women. In this context, due to its biological potential as an antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunoprotective, resveratrol emerges as a potential complementary therapy to the treatment of endometriosis and improves the quality of life of individuals affected by this pathology. This is an integrative review, drawn up from research carried out in the Virtual Health Library (VHL) and Google Scholar databases through the crossing of selected descriptors with the help of the Boolean operators “AND”, “OR” and "PARENTHESES". Analysis of the results reveals that resveratrol supplementation can contribute to improving the clinical condition of women affected by this condition, reducing the intensity of symptoms and, consequently, improving quality of life. Therefore, the potential of resveratrol as an adjuvant therapy in the management of endometriosis becomes evident, highlighting its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and immunoprotective properties.
