Design A qualitative study using semi-structured focus group discussions and interviews was undertaken, augmented by an online survey. Participants both with and without SATDs were included. Setting Interviews and Focus Group Discussions were conducted online using Microsoft Teams. Survey was conducted online through Microsoft Forms. Participants We conducted 7 focus group discussions and 2 interviews with a total of 15 participants; 13 female, 2 male; 9 with SATDs, 6 without. The survey received 89 responses; 52 female and 36 male; 82 with SATDs, 5 without, and 2 not sure. Main outcome measures The responses from the focus groups, interviews, and the survey were thematically coded on NVivo to identify the following: 1. Key challenges faced by minority communities in seeking and receiving support for SATDs 2. Strategies that they feel will help them seek and receive support for SATDs Results Five key challenges were identified: discrimination, cultural differences, communication barriers, other responsibilities, and unfamiliar systems; strategies to address these challenges are discussed. Conclusion The identified challenges and existing generic healthcare strategies were reviewed to create suggested strategies to improve SATD support and healthcare for people from ethnic minority communities in the UK.
